Must-Eat Food Pop-Ups & Drops in NYC 1.20-1.27
Whether we’re celebrating a big win, or trying to eat our feelings, we all lean on chefs, restaurants and food as the perfect way to party, or cope. It’s because chefs and restaurants make us feel good - and vice versa. Matty Matheson described this, from the chef angle, in his Emmy award acceptance speech for The Bear. “We’re all broken inside and every single day we got to show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something and sitting at a table, and it’s really beautiful.” With nights and mornings colder than ever and vitamin D harder to come by than a reservation at Tatiana; right now especially, those words couldn’t be more true. And this week we are highlighting, two flaming hot pop-ups and three dish drops to thaw the chill of winter in NYC.
As always, this article is just a small taste of the pop-ups and drops you can find in the 8it app. Hit the green button at the bottom of this article to explore the 8it app.
Tres Leches Doughnut
West Village // 1.19-1.21
It pains us to say that The Doughnut Project’s success story will conclude at the end of February. After ten years of business, co-founder and doughnut dignitary Leslie Polizzotto, a.k.a the West Village Willy Wonka of Doughnuts, has decided it’s time to move on. But, they’re going out with a bang starting with this weekend’s drop, the Tres Leches Doughnut; yet another example of Leslie and her team’s ability to turn anything into a doughnut. PLUS, they want to know which of The Doughnut Project’s greatest drops you’d like to see for one last time over the next five weeks. Find all the info in the 🧨 Drops category on the 8it app.
Chicken and Waffles
Park Slope // 1.20
The Maybach of fried chicken has stunned its own creator, Chef Eric Huang, once again. A former chicken and waffles skeptic, Huang never saw the point of combining the two, let alone with his flawlessly engineered chili fried chicken. But after giving it a try, he’s made it live, and it might just be a temporary remedy for seasonal depression. The crispiest, juiciest fried chicken you could possibly imagine, dipped in spicy duck fat, comes in two pieces on an apple honey, miso butter waffle or as a waffle sandwich starting this Saturday. It will run until they sell out or go up in flames trying to make enough waffles. Find all the info in the 🧨 Drops category on the 8it app.
Ace’s Pizza x S&P
Williamsburg // 1.26
Ace’s Pizza and S&P Lunch will be hybridizing food like dinosaurs at the Jurassic World lab next Friday. The world premiere of Latke-rella Sticks and Tuna Melt Pizza is going down on Driggs Avenue. If you’re unfamiliar, S&P Lunch’s tuna melt has more blue chips than the S&P 500 and their latkes are some of the best in the city. Two of the top dishes in their stacked diner menu arsenal are hatching embryos with the comforting, cheesy goodness of Ace’s Pizza. Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.
Idle Hands Supper Club
Financial District // 1.27
Chef Joe Mangipano and artist John Black are collabing for a supper club on the 69th floor of WTC tower 3 next Saturday. A dinner that intersects art and food - guests will indulge in a ten-course tasting menu and take home a piece of art. But considering these are Mangipano plates, it’ll be more like eating ten pieces of art and taking a piece home just for good measure. Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.
Billy’s Hometown BEC
West Village // 1.27
A bacon, egg and cheese steeped in Brooklyn dreams is coming to the West Village next Saturday. Greenberg’s Bagels is celebrating their first expansion location with a drop laced with the pride of its home borough. Hometown BBQ’s famous pastrami bacon, Billy Durney’s pride and joy, exuding with the essence of NYC, is paired with an egg and New School American Cheese for this creation.
