Must-Eat Food Pop-Ups & Drops in NYC 6.17-6.24

Earlier this week, on the lead up to Father’s Day, Eater correspondent Jaya Saxena remarked that Father’s Day food items and experiences she has pitched include “grill essentials,” brown liquors, a meat thermometer, and a kit to make a cocktail called “The Vasectomy.” She went on to explain that those gifts aren’t suitable for every dad since not all dads are “bros”. We couldn’t agree more, so we stacked this week’s Must-Eats with food pop-ups and drops that will give dad a break from the grill, and allow him to explore his more adventurous side. Plus, it’s a double-holiday weekend, and we’re giving you the inside scoop on some of the most exciting Juneteenth food events in NYC.

As always, this article is just a small taste of the pop-ups and drops you can find in the 8it app. Hit the green button at the bottom of this article to explore the 8it app.

Sure, you could take your dad to his favorite restaurant for Father’s Day, but we doubt it matches up to Chef Nancy Nguyen’s Vietnamese pop-up Beaucoup. On Sunday, she’s hosting a five-course dinner at Just Pho You with a menu featuring soft shell crab, beef pho dumplings, her dad’s shrimp and eggplant lettuce wraps, short rib stew, and summer corn ice cream. Bring your dad to this dinner and he’ll forget about his favorite restaurant. Find all the info in the 💥 Pop-ups category on the 8it app.

The menu features dishes that are “dressed in black” including a seared scallop with fermented okra and 7 spice ash, wild greens with a dark chocolate garlic mustard, a duck breast with kumquat jus, a squid ink kafir leaf waffle with saffron battered cod and caviar cream sauce, and a mud pie with rum charcoal whip. Along with the five course meal, there will be conversations about the significance of Juneteenth, and a musical performance by Alex Tremblay. Guests are asked to dress in all black casual attire.
