Must-Eat Food Pop-Ups & Drops in NYC 4.8-4.15

Across the city this weekend there will be people taking part in their annual Easter egg hunts, which got us thinking, every week is like an Easter egg hunt searching for the most exciting food pop-ups and dish drops in NYC. There’s something innately human about it. Our ancestors did begin as hunter gatherers after all. Whether we're scouring parks for pastel-colored eggs or tracking down the latest underground culinary gem, the thrill of the chase is in our blood. And although food can now be conveniently served to us on plates in the shelter of a restaurant, there’s still something exhilarating about trekking out into the streets to find the best of it.

As always, this article is just a small taste of the pop-ups and drops in the 8it app. Hit the green button below each dish to access 8it and get all the deets. (Private Beta password: NYCPOPUP)

Rise + Dine x ByClio
Park Slope // 4.9

📸: Ramen by Rā

Chef Rāsheeda Purdie’s anti-turn up brunch ramen pop-up is back with bowls of ramen inspired by typical New York breakfasts. Bacon, egg & cheese, gravlax, steak & eggs, everything bagel egg drop, and BLT ramen are on deck for this collab with ByClio Bakery by Clio Goodman, because who on Earth wants another bland breakfast this Sunday? Your favorite breakfast dishes deserve to be deconstructed, reconstructed, and adorned in warm stocks rich in umami as you slurp them down in a broth-induced trance while an equally enchanting jazz playlist curated by Rāsheeda herself completes the symphony. Michael Patlazhan, is bringing his latest obsession, Mexican cuisine, to his pop-up series at Ostudio the next three Tuesdays. Open-fire cooking, heat, and smoke will play large roles on the menu that has thus far featured black cod with almond mole, beets cooked over fire, barbecued sunchoke, and more. Patlazhan’s career began at various types of restaurants, but he ultimately decided to take his own path as a one-man show. “The biggest PLUS is being able to curate my own menu, and continually evolve my style,” said Patlazhan. “It absolutely comes with its own challenges but at the end of the day it is worth the risk.” Tap the flame below for all the info on his pop-up series.

Mimi Cheng’s just opened a new location in Brooklyn and to celebrate, they’ve teamed up with Billy Durney, founder of their new Brooklyn neighbors Hometown Bar-B-Que, for their monthly drop. What an emphatic way to arrive in a new borough. If you fetishize repurposing Hometown’s brisket, this one’s for you. They’ll be slinging pepper-caramelized beef brisket dumplings with Swiss cheese, housemade Russian dressing, and slaw all month long. Tap the smoke below for all the info.

Tortas Ahogadas
Downtown Brooklyn // 4.8

Master baker, author, and TV personality Bryan Ford is teaming up with James Beard Award-winning chef Christina Martinez of South Philly Barbacoa for a special sandwich drop at Nimbus this Saturday. Tortas ahogadas are drowned sandwiches, meaning the bread is drenched in a sauce concentrated with barbacoa drippings. Chef Christina’s barbacoa landing on Ford’s bread is the culinary equivalent of the Easter Bunny delivering a basket of goodies right to your taste buds. Tap the sandwich below for all the info.

Pastiera di Grano
Williamsburg // Available thru Easter

The last stop on our version of an Easter egg hunt, is Settepani Bakery's Pastiera di Grano, the ultimate Easter indulgence. This Italian delight is packed with cooked wheat, eggs, and ricotta cheese, and flavored with orange flower water and a secret blend of spices that will make your taste buds sing “Buona Pasqua”! It's the kind of pastry that makes you want to throw all your eggs in one basket and never look back. So, do yourself a solid and hop on over to Settepani's Williamsburg or Harlem stores to pick one up for the fam. And if you can't make it in time for Easter, don't freak, you can still order it via Goldbelly and have it arrive fashionably late. Because let's be honest, who needs a specific day to celebrate the resurrection of pastry perfection? Hit the bunny below to get all the deets.
